tabs

named tabs inside a group - a trip, a month, a project. one is active and takes new expenses; closing one posts the final numbers and freezes it.

one active tab

a group's expenses go on its active tab. the first expense creates a tab called general; "@teresa new tab Roma" opens another and makes it active. "which tabs?" lists them, "switch to general" changes the active one, "rename the tab to Roma 2026" renames it.

close it, get the numbers

"close the tab", "cerramos la cuenta" freezes it and posts who owes who, once. a closed tab takes no new expenses, edits or deletes - the posted numbers stay true - but it still accepts payments, so people can settle it (splitting and settling). "reopen Roma" un-freezes it.

each tab has its own rules

whether a tab splits or is a plain ledger, and whether it has a budget, is set per tab - see budgets and no-split. a private chat has no tabs: it is one ledger.
