terms of service
teresa is an expense tracker that lives inside whatsapp. by messaging it, adding it to a group, or opening one of its share links you agree to these terms. if you don't, don't use it.
what it does
you text what you spent; teresa logs it, keeps a tally, splits group costs, and gives every chat a web page with the running totals. it uses a language model to read your messages, so it can misread an amount, a date, or who paid. always check the numbers before you rely on them. teresa keeps track of what you tell it - it is not accounting, tax, or financial advice, and it is not a payment service. it never moves money.
your account
there is no sign-up. your whatsapp number (or, in a group, the group itself) is your account. anyone who can send messages from that number or in that group can add, edit, and delete its expenses. keep your phone and your groups under control; we can't tell you apart from someone using your phone.
groups
when someone adds teresa to a group, it reads every message in that group to spot expenses (see the privacy policy). whoever adds teresa is responsible for telling the other members and for having the right to do so. if you're in a group with teresa and don't want that, remove it or leave the group - teresa can't remove itself.
share links
each chat gets a link that shows its expenses, balances, and downloads to anyone who has it - no login, on purpose. treat the link like a password: whoever you send it to can forward it. say "new link" in the chat to kill the old one. we rate-limit links but can't know who is holding one.
acceptable use
- don't use it to spam, harass, impersonate, or scrape.
- don't try to break it, probe it, or overload it, or to pull other people's data out of it.
- don't feed it anything illegal, or anything you don't have the right to share.
- follow whatsapp's own terms - teresa runs on a regular whatsapp account and lives by their rules too.
we can block a number or a group at any time, with or without notice, if we think it breaks these rules or hurts the service.
availability and changes
this is a small, best-effort service. it may go down, lose a message, reply late, or change how it works. we may add, change, or drop features, or shut the service down. we'll try to give notice on the landing page when it matters, but we can't promise it.
no warranty, limited liability
teresa is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied - including that it will be accurate, available, or fit for a particular purpose. to the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using it or relying on its output, including money you split or settled based on a wrong tally. where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to what you paid to use the service - which is nothing.

teresa is an independent project. it is not made, endorsed, or supported by whatsapp or meta. whatsapp is a trademark of its owner.
changes to these terms
we may update these terms; the date at the top will change. keep using teresa after a change and you accept the new terms.
